Research on Addictions and Disparities (RoAD) Lab

University of Western Ontario
Department of Psychology

At the RoAD Lab, we investigate the 'What' and 'Why' of addiction—examining the underlying mechanisms that drive substance use behaviors. By uncovering these processes, we aim to inform the development of evidence-based treatment protocols that support individuals in answering the critical question: 'How' do I stop using?

Our Mission

How can we help people reduce and/or quit abusing substances? How can we incorporate culturally-tailored techniques to help those from marginalized communities?

Why do people escalate use and develop problems (i.e., mechanisms driving continued substance use)?

What are the risk factors that contribute to substance use initiation, escalation, and problems?
